Data Breach

Wichita Urology Group recently learned of a data incident that involved certain individuals’ personal information.  On January 3, 2023, we discovered suspicious activity on our network.  Upon discovering the incident, we promptly began an internal investigation and engaged a forensic security firm to investigate and secure our computer systems. The investigation determined that an unknown third party accessed certain systems from January 2, 2023 to January 3, 2023. The investigation also determined that some files were accessed and acquired from our computer systems.  On February 16, 2023, we determined that the files contained some individuals’ personal information. The type of information at issue varied for each individual, but included a variation of the following: name; name; address, Social Security number; prescription information, billing information, insurance policy number, claims information, such as refund amounts and check numbers, and/or patient account number.

Wichita Urology Group is committed to taking and has taken additional steps, including implementing additional technical controls, to help reduce the likelihood of a similar event from happening in the future. At this point, we are not aware of any fraud or identity theft to any individual as a result of this incident, but we are nonetheless notifying impacted patients and have arranged for complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services for those individuals whose Social Security numbers were involved. The notice will include information on steps individuals can take to protect themselves against potential fraud or identity theft. In general, we are recommending that individuals regularly monitor credit reports, account statements and benefit statements. If individuals detect any suspicious activity, they should notify the entity with which the account is maintained, and promptly report any fraudulent activity to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state attorney general.
